The OM5P is a high speed 5 GHz 802.11n wireless mesh access point ideally suited for adding robust 5 GHz Internet coverage to your existing Open-Mesh networks. Examples include hotels, apartments, neighborhoods, coffee shops, shopping malls, campgrounds, and marinas.

The 5 GHz band is less congested than 2.4 GHz, so the OM5P is ideal for offloading 5 GHz-capable clients to the faster 5 GHz band, leaving 2.4 GHz for legacy clients. In most situations, you will want to pair this access point with a 2.4 GHz model such as the OM2P or OM2P-HS.

Compatibility notes:
This access point is 5 GHz only and uses 5xx-series firmware. There are a few compatibility restrictions to note:
1. The OM5P is 5 GHz-only. 2.4GHz devices will not connect and this access point will not mesh with OM2P models.
2. When adding the OM5P to an existing network, the entire network will upgrade to 5xx firmware. 5xx firmware is not compatible with the OM1P, MR500 or CoovaChilli.

With flat 20dBm power (2-5dBi higher than most access points) and dual receive amplifiers to boost incoming signals, the OM5P provides incredible speed with more range than comparable 5 GHz access points.

Open-Mesh OM Series access points are compatible with passive 12-24v PoE. This is not 802.11af PoE compatible, so these access points cannot be used with standard PoE switches or PoE injectors. Passive POE keeps costs low, reduces heat dissipation and allows for the most compact size possible. We sell a line of PoE injectors and power supplies to power these access points.
